Fourth Annual Stars & Stripes, Diamonds & Clubs USO Benefit

Pat Sajak, Vietnam veteran and Emmy-Award winning host of “Wheel of Fortune,” was the Guest Master of Ceremonies at USO-Metro's 4th Annual Stars & Stripes, Diamonds & Clubs Casino Night on September 21, 2007 at the Sheraton National Hotel. Throughout the evening, Pat Sajak hosted a “Wheel of Fortune”-like game with soldiers and their families, performed a live auction, and mingled with the crowd.

At the end of the evening, USO-Metro President Elaine Rogers presented Sajak with a new USO jacket, hat, and Handshake Tour T-shirt. Sajak gladly put on the clothing and danced around the stage, with the crowd cheering him on. Rogers also recognized Sajak's commitment to the USO by presenting him with an American flag that had been flown over Camp Fallujah, Iraq.

In total, the event raised over $126,000 to support the area’s active duty military. A grand prize trip to Las Vegas went to the night's big casino winner and Sajak auctioned off the evening’s top prize – a trip to Iceland that went for $2,100. All proceeds from this charity event will help deliver vital programs and services to our troops and their families.

Some notable attendees included 2006 World Series of Poker finalist Rhett Butler, Miss Virginia 2007 Hannah Kiefer, Miss District of Columbia 2007 Shayna Rudd, Miss Greater Richmond 2007 Jessie Buckman, Miss Maryland 2006 Brittany Lietz, Miss District of Columbia 2006 Kate Michael, and singer-songwriter Michael Peterson.

This year’s USO Casino Night featured an extravaganza of casino games such as craps, roulette, blackjack, and Texas hold 'em, a spectacular dinner and dessert buffet, live and silent auctions, and entertainment by the patriotic singing and dancing troupe “American Belles.”
