7/3/07 – Rockville, MD – The USO of Metropolitan Washington and TaylorMade-adidas Golf surprised twenty-two active duty military and family members when PGA Tour professional Fred Funk showed up to give them a golf demonstration at the private Woodmont Country Club. Fred spent two hours that afternoon teaching golf lessons, answering questions, and signing hats for the troops.

Fred taught service-members and their guests proper golf form and technique. His focal point of advice was to “find a natural athletic position while you learn how to improve your golf swing.” He told them to concentrate on good upper body posture.

“Thanks to USO-Metro and TaylorMade-adidas, I learned a few insider tips from Fred Funk that will improve my golf game,” said Sr. Master Sergeant, Will Hawkins. “Fred spoke in layman’s terms making it easier for me to understand; he was very patient in answering everyone’s questions.”

Fred fired up the crowd when he decided to test two of his new TaylorMade drivers. He showcased his powerful driving ability at the driving range while the crowd sat back in awe as the balls soared far out into the green.

Fred said he “had a great time with the troops”. When asked why he agreed to give free golf lessons to the troops, Fred replied “because I appreciate what our troops are doing to preserve our freedom and independence. I just play golf for a living, but these brave troops sacrifice their lives. This is just my way of saying thank you for their hard work and dedication.”
