Nearly 300 people turned out for the USO-Metro Father’s Day picnic on June 17, 2007. Gathering at Ft. Belvoir’s Castle Park, military families enjoyed a day of crafts, face painting, volleyball, horseshoes, fishing, and treats such as cotton candy, sno cones, and hot dogs. The winners of the Father’s Day essay contest at Ft. Belvoir Elementary school read their winning essays aloud, and each child awarded his or her dad with an Army Charcoal grill. The event was generously sponsored by Vista. USO-Metro plans to make the Father’s Day celebration an annual event.
