The USO of Metropolitan Washington Celebrates Military Appreciation Day at Old Dominion Speedway
Manassas—DC area patriots marked Military Appreciation Day 2005 with another great day of auto racing at Old Dominion Speedway in Manassas, Virginia on May 21. For the third year in a row, USO-Metro and Old Dominion Speedway teamed up to honor our troops with a day of incredible entertainment, fast cars, and excellent food. The Rob Byer Band and America's Beloved Tenor Daniel Rodriguez performed for an enthusiastic crowd. Actor, musician, and Viet Nam Veteran Mickey Jones was the emcee for the day.
Old Dominion Speedway provided 500 free tickets to USO-Metro for distribution to the local military community. A dozen patients from Walter Reed Army Medical Center attended and enjoyed a barbeque picnic before the racing began. The soldiers were publicly honored at the event for their service to our country.
The event also included both a silent and a live auction, proceeds of which benefited USO-Metro. Various gift certificates and autographed sports memorabilia were featured in the auction, which raised thousands of dollars for USO-Metro.
