Papa John’s Launches the USO Special

Vienna, VA - Papa John’s launches its USO Special with $1 from every sale benefiting the USO of Metropolitan Washington.

It’s February – and you gotta have a heart.  Papa John’s will be showing its heart around the DC and Baltimore area by taking Papa’s Pledge and donating $1 from every USO Special pizza sold now through April 2009.

The USO Special is a large pizza with up to seven toppings for $13.99, $1.00 of each sale goes directly to the USO of Metropolitan Washington.

“I’ve been in the pizza business for 15 years now and before that I was in the military for 27 years,” says Retired Colonel William Freitas, Papa John’s franchisee for 51 locations in the D.C. and Baltimore corridor.  “With the online USO Special, I can combine the two great loves of my life – pizza and America’s Armed Forces.”

All 147 stores of the National Capital Region including Baltimore are participating and hope to raise more than $50,000 over the course of the promotion to benefit the local USO chapter.

“Papa John’s is truly committed to USO-Metro in our service to the troops!   In addition to an amazing fundraising campaign, without hesitation they are on the scene, ready to provide food and fare at various events for our hungry troops and their families, especially our wounded warriors recovering at the local military hospitals,“ said Elaine Rogers, president of the USO of Metropolitan Washington.

Papa John’s continues to lead the industry in convenient ordering options. The pizza company was the first to introduce ordering online in 2001, which now accounts for nearly one-quarter of its business. The company’s unique advance online ordering option at www.papajohns.com enables consumers to place orders and specify the time of delivery or pick-up (up to three weeks in advance).
