USO-Metro Receives BWI Business Partnership’s
Organization of the Year Award
Fort
Myer, VA, July 22, 2008— The USO of Metropolitan Washington
(USO-Metro) today announced that it has received the BWI Business
Partnership’s 2008 Organization of the Year Award for dedicated
assistance to traveling service members and their families at
Baltimore Washington International Airport (BWI) lounge. USO-Metro
provides services throughout the Washington DC and Baltimore metro
regions for more than 500,000 service members and their families
each year.
USO-Metro’s BWI airport lounge is a “home
away from home” for traveling service members and their
families offering free internet and long distance calling services,
a snack bar and a movie lounge with a fully stocked library of
current feature films. The 5,000 square-foot lounge is staffed
by knowledgeable volunteers who can help with travel assistance,
bag checks and pre-flight wake-up calls. USO-Metro also operates
lounges at Washington Dulles, Reagan National and Andrews Air
Force Base.
“We take great pride in our ability to provide
these lounges to our traveling service men and women,” said
Elaine Rogers, President of USO-Metro. “We are truly honored
to receive this award for doing something we feel is so worthwhile.”
Each year the BWI Business Partnership recognizes an organization
that has done exemplary service for the BWI community. The BWI
Business Partnership is a non-profit economic development and
transportation management association comprised of nearly 175
top businesses and agencies throughout the region. The partnership
focuses on BWI Airport as a centerpiece of the economic infrastructure
for the region and recognizes USO-Metro’s impact on the
Baltimore-Washington metro community, specifically through the
airport lounges.
“We have members who volunteer with the USO, and we see
first hand the great work they do,” said Linda Greene, Executive
Director of BWI Business Partnership Inc. “They touch so
many lives, not only through airport programs, but also through
the continued expansion of other programs in our region. The work
they do is so important; our annual award was given to them as
our Organization of the Year to recognize those programs and their
importance.”
In addition to airport lounges, USO-Metro operates
support centers at military bases throughout the region. For more
